What health effects does nicotine have on the body and mind?

This question is only about nicotine. Do not mention smoke, carbon monoxide, carcinogens, tar, or any of the other 4000 harmful chemicals in cigarettes. Please explain how it effects the mind while in the system, and the long and short term effects.
