Is it possible to conceptualize an event that is independent and devoid of our sensual experience?

To elaborate, my friend and I are currently debating on whether or not humans have the ability to imagine something that is completely separate from our innate experience of the "reality" we perceive through the use of our five senses. I think it's possible. He doesn't. I say he's underestimating the power of our imagination. He says he's putting things into perspective
