How do i use a mud trowel for drywall?

use a larger trowel to put mud on, mix mud on larger trowel until becomes creamy, then a smaller trowel to paste mud onto the drywall seams, i find that using a four inch wide trowel for spreading the mud is much easier for me. Smooth mud form top of dry wall down the seam in a very thin coat. let dry then sand lightly over mudded areas, you can tell wear to sand by running your hand over the mudded seams, smooth any ruff areas and edges, or they will show through paint.
