Great NFL jersey debate?

If I remember correctly, when Jerry Rice got traded to Seattle, he wanted to wear the #80, except that # had been worn by Steve Largent & WAS retired. Rice ended up getting the ok to wear the jersey. This is the same situation, so if Rice says it's ok, I don't see the problem with it.
